Come on out and check them out.

I was taking a long walk with my camera in tow. This time it was on the south-side of Greenwood. The route included a stretch of Worthville Rd. from US 31 east to Emerson Ave. For history buffs this is part of the Whetzel Trace that Jacob Whetzel and his crew blazed from Laurel, IN to Waverly, IN. He did this as Jacob needed a way to get to his piece of property in Worthington, IN located down the White River and reached only by raft. This was down at the beginning of the 19th century when the Midwest was part of the Northwest territory and was totally a wilderness. A land uncharted, and inhabited by the native Indian Tribes and wild animals such as beaver, wolves, deer, wild turkeys, skunks, bison, wild pigs and  other critters native to the area.

I am speaking of the past so you can get a flavor for how this area has changed and rapidly continues to do so. It is my firm belief that those who lose and forget their past can never plan for and execute the proper actions to discover their future. Pardon me for a slight digression. BUT having just described this area of 200+ years ago, it is amazing how much the view has changed in the last 5 years. Several large housing additions have been built on the north side of Worthville Rd. This in conjunction with new schools further down the road to the east and on the north side again and more housing additions on the south side. It is comforting then that there are others who deem the history of area important and have built a running path that is north of THE BARN that is dedicated to the pioneer, Jacob Whetzel and his importance to the county and so has been appropriately named THE WHETZEL PATH.   JRS-EPID2006
